The session will be moderated by Ms Dr Angelika Poth-Mögele, Executive Director European Affairs of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).
The debate will showcase how local and regional authorities implement sustainable solutions to shift towards a carbon-neutral economy. Cities and regions put into practice driving projects to get on track to the 2050 goals and the localisation of the SDGs, show citizens carbon neutral’s advantages and engage them in the transition, as a shared multi-stakeholder responsibility.
Contributors will present their own strategies and projects related to different aspects of energy transition, such as mobility, energy efficiency in buildings and use of renewable, clean energy sources.
Audience members will get to exchange views with the panellists on the way the EU could consider local and regional suggestions for the future policy framework post-2020.

Paweł Adamowicz, the liberal mayor of the Polish city of Gdańsk, died on Monday (14 January) of his wounds, a day after being stabbed by a man who rushed the stage during a charity event. EU officials said they were devastated and expressed utter shock.
“We couldn’t win,” Poland’s health minister Lukasz Szumowski told reporters via private broadcaster TVN. Doctors had operated on Adamowicz for five hours, state news agency PAP said.
Adamowicz was attacked while attending the annual Great Orchestra of Christmas charity, a fundraiser where volunteers collect money for medical equipment in hospitals.
