In Brussels Wielkopolska President Marek Wozniak participated in a plenary session of the Committee of the Regions and the European Week of Cities and Regions OPEN DAYS which accompanied it. The Committee’s session was held from 10th to 12th October. At a meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) group in the CoR, which preceded the session, its Vice-President Marek Wozniak informed in detail members of this group about results of the Polish parliamentary elections about its importance to continuity of the activities of the Polish Presidency and continuation of the European dimension in the Polish policy. Members of the EPP very positively responded in their statements to this information.

"Over the last few decades the nature and scope of EU industrial policy has changed significantly. Thanks to a desire to boost growth and competitiveness in the member states, we have seen a renewed effort to create ambitious and sustainable industrial policy" introduced Michael Schneider, President of the EPP Group in the Committee of the Regions, at the EPP seminar on industrial policy as part of OPEN DAYS: European Week of Regions and Cities today. "Local and regional authorities have developed much experience in the field of economic and industrial development, which makes us vital for the implementation of this flagship of the Europe 2020 Strategy."

Political developments in the countries of Eastern Europe and the Southern Caucasus have an impact on the European Union's security, stability and prosperity. This is why the European Commission launched the "Eastern Partnership" in December 2008, putting forward concrete ideas for enhancing the EU's relationship with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, from deep and comprehensive free trade agreements to gradual visa liberalisation. The Polish Council presidency has made this initiative one of its key priorities.

As the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union draws to a close and the Polish Presidency takes the helm, the EPP warmly welcomed Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Polish Minister for Regional Development at the CoR Bureau on 29 June to discuss about the priorities for the second semester. "The ambitious programme of the Polish presidency gives the EPP Group in the CoR many opportunities to carry its work forward in the coming six months" stated EPP Group President Michael Schneider. "We are eager to work with the determined EPP Polish delegation in the CoR and will seek synergies with the Polish Presidency to further promote the implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy and secure a strong cohesion policy in the context of the new Multiannual Financial Framework" he added.
