Once the EU's 2014-2020 budget is confirmed by the European Parliament and EU member states, Cohesion Policy will invest € 325 billion in Europe's regions and cities to deliver the EU-wide goals of growth and jobs, as well as tackling climate change and energy dependence. Taking into account the national contribution of member states, and the leverage effect of financial instruments, the overall impact is likely to be more than 500 billion euros. The reform of Cohesion Policy will ensure maxim impact for the investments, adapted to individual needs of regions and cities. Key elements of the reform are:

The fourth edition of EuroPCom will bring together communication managers and senior experts from local, regional, national and European authorities. Over 700 colleagues from all EU member states are expected at this networking event. Lectures, debates and interactive workshops will focus on major challenges in EU communication and public communication.

The OPEN DAYS - 11th European Week of Regions and Cities will take place in Brussels from 7 to 10 October 2013. The largest annual event devoted entirely to regional policy is being once again jointly organised by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, in partnership with 200 regions and cities from 30 countries. A hundred workshops and debates will be held in Brussels whilst another 200-300 local events are being organised all over Europe.
The 2013 edition is being organised under the slogan 'Taking off for 2020' focusing on regions' and cities' commitment in preparing and delivering their cohesion policy programmes for the period 2014-2020, worth a total of EUR 345 billion in EU funding.

The
European Commission has proposed to set up a Fund to help the most deprived
persons in the EU. The Fund would support Member
State
schemes providing food to the most deprived people and clothing and other
essential goods to homeless people and materially-deprived children. The
proposal now goes to the European Parliament and the European Union's Council
of Ministers for approval.
