Following the election of Donald Tusk as the next President of the European Council & Euro Summits, President Michael Schneider congratulated the Polish Prime Minister his new post, on behalf of the EPP Group in the Committee of the Regions, expressing his wishes for strengthened cooperation between the CoR and the Council:"We are delighted by the appointment of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk as the next President of the European Council. Together with Jean-Claude Juncker, the European People's Party will be able to lead the EU back to growth and ensure the best future for Europe's regions and cities".

The European Council decided on Saturday (30.08) to elect Donald Tusk as President of the European Council, and to appoint Federica Mogherini as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The President of the European Council is elected for the period from 1 December 2014 until 31 May 2017. The mandate of two and a half years of the President of the European Council is renewable once. Donald Tusk was also appointed President of the Euro Summit, for the same period.
