On Friday, 8th June the representations of four Polish regions* hosting the matches of the European Football Championships EURO 2012, together with the Polish diplomatic corps and the Polish Tourist Organisation invited a several hundred guests to celebrate the inauguration of the Championships in the heart of Brussels. During the Poland-Greece match the Autoworld Museum was filled with white &red, as well as white&blue flags and later with the national colours of Russia and the Czech Republic, which played the second match. Supporting the teams during such an international gathering was a unique occasion to promote Polish regions and cities among the Europeans.
The big crowd was welcomed by the Ambassadors of Poland and Greece in Belgium and in the European Union. Just before the kick-off marking the beginning of the first match all guests had the opportunity to watch Tomasz Baginski’s film promoting EURO 2012 in Poland. They also couldn’t be bored during the half-time break when short footages presenting Polish host-cities and regions were broadcasted. There was also an opportunity to take part in the lottery and win Championships official t-shirts, mascots and many other gadgets. Guests’ attention was also drawn to the exhibition of the Polish Tourist Organisation showcasing inter alia four Polish stadiums, which will become the arenas of football games in the next couple of weeks. The event was accompanied by a degustation of Polish snacks.
Over 700 diplomats, UE officials and many other people from all the EU countries attended the event and the four teams were supported in Brussels by the whole of Europe!
