The planned Small Business Act is a “crucial milestone”, commission president José Manuel Barroso said. It will mean “less red tape and more red carpet” for entrepreneurs.
The EU is home to some 23m small and mid-sized businesses (defined as companies with under 250 employees). They provide the majority of jobs in the EU, especially in key industries like textiles, construction and furniture-making, and are considered crucial to economic success.

"This inititative was really needed”. These are the words said by participants of our Monday workshop on “JEREMIE- Joint European Resources for Micro to Medium Enterprises – local and national experiences in preparatory phase for implementation”. The experts from almost all countries and regions sharing interest for the JEREMIE initiative, EC’s officials and representatives of the European Investment Fund came to Brussels on the 2nd of June for the workshop organised by the Information Office of Wielkopolska.

In each EU Member State, European Commission Representations and EUROPE DIRECT Information Centres will organise over 500 events to celebrate Europe Day on 9 May. The main theme this year is intercultural dialogue. Through the celebrations thousands of people will be able to explore the many faces of the EU.
European Commission Vice-President Margot Wallström said: "Europe Day is an occasion for the EU Institutions to show their human face and for people to see that Europe is about people, and not just institutions or legislation."

Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, was elected a member and a Vice President in the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions during the 74 Plenary Session, yesterday, 10 April 2008. The nomination allows to combine two important functions in this expert and consultative institution of the EU. Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, has been a Member of the Committee of the Regions since February 2006. He has been participating in works of two commissions: EDUC (Commission for Culture, Education and Rresearch ) and RELEX (Commission for External Relations and Decentralised Cooperation). Since October 2007 he has been also appointed a function of Vice President of the CoR and head of the Polish delegation ad personam.
