In each EU Member State, European Commission Representations and EUROPE DIRECT Information Centres will organise over 500 events to celebrate Europe Day on 9 May. The main theme this year is intercultural dialogue. Through the celebrations thousands of people will be able to explore the many faces of the EU.
European Commission Vice-President Margot Wallström said: "Europe Day is an occasion for the EU Institutions to show their human face and for people to see that Europe is about people, and not just institutions or legislation."

Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, has been a Member of the Committee of the Regions since February 2006. He has been participating in works of two commissions: EDUC (Commission for Culture, Education and Rresearch ) and RELEX (Commission for External Relations and Decentralised Cooperation). Since October 2007 he has been also appointed a function of Vice President of the CoR and head of the Polish delegation ad personam.

MEPs debated the situation in Tibet with some MEPs calling for a possible boycott of at least the opening ceremony of the forthcoming Olympic Games to be held in China this summer while others said that a boycott would be futile. Many MEPs called for freedom for Tibet and underlined the human rights abuses in China and called for maximum restraint. The House also debated the outcome of the last European Council of 13 and 14 March with Slovenian PM Janez Janša.

On 5 March, the first of seven Brussels Debates was held in the Residence Palace in Brussels in the framework of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The topic, the “Impact of Migration on Intercultural Dialogue” provoked a lively debate, with interventions from special guests Franco Frattini and Cem Özdemir as well as from keynote speakers Bashy Quarishy and Joris Rijbroek.
In his speech, Vice-President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, responsible for justice, freedom and security, presented the global approach towards immigration at the EU level, of which integration is one of the main pillars.
