Acting Deputy Director of the Representation of the State of Hessen to the EU
Poland took over the EU Council Presidency from Hungary on January 1, 2025 under the motto "Security, Europe!". Aspects of security are set to guide the presidency across seven areas of action: defense, protection of people and borders, resistance to foreign interference, economic policy, energy, agriculture, and health. This presidency takes place in a time of significant geopolitical challenges – the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East remain at the top of the political agenda for 2025. At the same time, discussions about the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework and the reduction of bureaucracy are intensifying. Poland’s presidency will also be shaped by political events - the Polish presidential election in May, as well as the change in the U.S. administration. What are the key priorities of Poland's program, and what challenges will the new presidency face in the first half of 2025? We will try to answer these and other questions during the joint event organized by the two partner regions, Hessen and Wielkopolska.
